September and October are times when it is coldest and grayest outside the window. This is the time to think about traveling to places where summer is still present. This article is written from the point of view of a European (particularly one who lives in Central Europe).
Autumn is undoubtedly a lovely season. Trees and bushes change their leaves to golden red, only to lose them irrevocably. Animals prepare for hibernation, birds begin their annual migration, and the weather becomes brighter. It is a sign that nature is preparing for winter to return in a few months.
This is the time of year most loved by photographers, painters, writers, musicians and poets. No wonder: the earth looks magical and phenomenal in autumn, and this period has produced countless works of art. However, not everyone likes this kind of weather and some prefer to hibernate completely like some forest creatures during the frost period. Therefore, with the beginning of September, it is worth looking for directions in search of the eternal summer.
In the Canary Islands, the sun shines almost all year round.
Although the archipelago is located in the Atlantic Ocean northwest of the African coast, it is officially an autonomous community of Spain. They are therefore part of the European Union. It is a region where most days are sunny and daytime temperatures very rarely fall below 20 degrees Celsius. Therefore, the islands can be visited year-round, from January to December.
The Canary Islands consist of seven major and six minor islands, most of which are uninhabited. They are:
Tenerife,
Fuerteventura,
Gran Canaria,
Lanzarote,
La Palma,
La Gomera,
El Hierro,
Graciosa,
Alegranza,
Lobos,
Montaña Clara,
Roque del Este,
Roque del Oeste.
Tenerife is the largest and most densely populated island and is home to the volcano Teide. It is a UNESCO world heritage site. It is located at an altitude of 3,700 meters and the views from the summit are extraordinary. Especially at sunrise.
It enchants with its beautiful and unique vegetation and breathtaking landscapes. Fuerteventura, on the other hand, is a paradise for surfers and lovers of great sandy beaches. It is important to note that European roaming works in the Canary Islands. This is important information for those who are planning a “working” vacation.
Italian summer also lasts until the end of October
Italy is a popular destination for tourists from around the world. You will find fascinating cities reminiscent of the Roman Empire and the Middle Ages, unique Italian cuisine, beautiful coastlines, majestic mountainous areas and stunning islands. Especially in the south of the country, summer lasts until late October and early November. Best of all, flights to Sicily or Sardinia are relatively cheap.
However, if you want to combine pleasure with utility, sightseeing with relaxation, consider a trip to Tuscany and in particular to Pisa. This small city, with a population of 85,000, is only 13 km from the Tyrrhenian Sea. You might say it is rather far away, but Pisa is an excellent choice for another reason.
It is an ideal starting point to reach many other interesting cities by public transportation. Importantly, the cost of living in Pisa is not prohibitive, so the city can serve as a temporary home for a few months for digital nomads.
North Africa is a paradise for archaeology lovers
Another interesting destination for the fall are the countries of North Africa. Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco are very popular with tourists. The African climate and the Arab culture are without a doubt an interesting break from Europe, especially since the region offers much more than huge resorts with swimming pools. It is above all a cultural and historical heritage of an incredible richness.
It is in Egypt that one can admire the works and structures of the ancient civilization, the pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx, the Valley of the Kings and many extraordinary temples and ancient cities. Archaeology enthusiasts will no doubt find plenty to do here, but there is no shortage of fabulous beaches either. Those who like to lounge on the sand should consider cities like Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh and Marsa El Alam.
You can reach the Caribbean even without a passport
A trip to the Caribbean is already a slightly more expensive alternative, mainly because of the distance between the Caribbean and Europe. However, it is a destination that guarantees a successful vacation, a warm climate, paradisiacal beaches and beautiful landscapes. Especially in late fall, when the rainy season slowly ends and the dry season begins.
It is interesting to note that two Caribbean islands can only be reached with an ID card. These are Guadeloupe and Martinique, French overseas departments.
